Functional, prebiotics and probiotics foods.

This new vision starts considering that the foods not only must be consumed by groups, but also taking into account that among them conforms an important range of additional benefits generated by the habit to eat a suitable variety of products.

For that reason, it has been created a classification, the one of "novel foods", in which there are grouped four types of products that have beneficial effects to the organism in different levels: functional, prebiotics and probiotics.

The functional foods are defined as "preparations that have positive influence in the human body, like improving the health beyond which it would make a diet or normal behaviour; as an example we have the vegetal butter, which diminish the cholesterol of the blood and benefit the circulatory system". At the same time, there are other elements that prevent diseases in the sanguineous routes due to their substances, like carrots (rich in vitaminA), vegetable oils (with vitamin E) or tomato, which contains licopeno that belongs to the carotenoid family. By the other hand, the grease acid Omega-3 (contained in fish) help to stimulate the defenses in the intestine walls, whereas the amino acids and carbohydrates have beneficial effect at psychological level, since they act directly in the nervous system, supporting their good operation and preventing states of nervousness, lack of concentration and sadness.

Between prebiotics foods we found different types from nondigeribles hydrates of carbon (Fibers), originating of some cereals, in addition to onion, artichoke and root of chicory, that once transformed by the bacterias of the intestin reduce diarreas associated to intestinal infections, feed the superficial cells of the heavy intestine, diminish the frequency of colon cancer and regulate the fat production by the organism. Also, the fiber can transport minerals until the heavy intestine, so that it favors that calcium particles arrive at the colon, where it is absorbed, so that this nonnutritious element reduces the risk of which the bones lose their density.

Regarding the probiotics foods, "they are microorganisms that do not cause diseases and are resistant to the effects of the digestion, reason why they arrive alive at the colon and they exert positive effect on the health of the person who ingested it".

The probiotics organisms contribute to regulating the bacterial flora that is in the digestive system, so that they originate unfavorable means for producing microorganisms of infection; by the other hand, they feed and stimulate the growth of the cells of the intestine, or, increase the answer of the immunological system (which defends the organism of infections) up front of diverse attacking factors, even cancerous cells.

The classic examples of probiotics are the microorganisms of yogurt (Lactobacillus acidophilus bulgaricus), which are made of groups of stocks with capacity to trasform milk in yogurt as well as provide an advantage for the health.
